Translational research

One of the objectives of CIMA is research that seeks to heal, research for the patient. For this reason, interaction between the scientific work of CIMA and the Schools of Experimental Science and Health, and the patient-care activity of Clínica Universidad de Navarra allows for translational research, which brings together basic and clinical research in the search for solutions that can be applied to the patient.

In order to promote patient-centered biomedical research, coordinate all the agents involved in the research projects and optimize the unique opportunities that the biomedical campus of the University of Navarra offers, CIMA and Clínica Universidad de Navarra have established the Multidisciplinary Translational Research Teams (EMIT).

This scenario provides a unique opportunity for collaboration: the patient is the beginning and the end of the research. The Clínica provides CIMA with access to the patient as the source of biological samples, a disease model and an opportunity to evaluate molecules and biomarkers derived from the basic research.

To date, 14 Multidisciplinary Translational Research Teams have been established in which the research programs of CIMA and those of the Department of Clinical Medicine are working together in the following areas:

  • EMIT in Hepatology
  • EMIT in Alzheimer's Disease
  • EMIT in Heart Failure
  • EMIT in Arrhythmias
  • EMIT in Thrombosis and Vascular Disease
  • EMIT in Cell Therapy in Heart Disease
  • EMIT in Cell Therapy in Osteoarticular Disease
  • EMIT in Lung Cancer
  • EMIT in Brain Tumors
  • EMIT in Multiple Myeloma-Amyloidosis
  • EMIT in Pediatric Osteosarcoma
  • EMIT in Cancer Epigenetics
  • EMIT in Immunotherapy and Gene Therapy
  • EMIT in Clinical Applications of Gene Therapy
